Ashton Tansey (volunteer & Trustee) talks about her experiences as a volunteer for Woolton Community Life.
What is befriending?
Face to face befriending: where a volunteer befriender visits an older person in their home, every week, perhaps for a cup of tea and a chat, or accompany them to an activity (such as a trip to a café or the theatre). In some cases, a volunteer may accompany the older person to occasion hospital or doctor’s appointments.
All befrienders are volunteers who undergo a DBS check, safeguarding and first aid training. They are then individually matched, as far as possible, to the hobbies and interests of the beneficiaries.
